Gallery Lafayette is one of the most prestigious department stores in all of Paris and every Christmas they commission the most elaborate and stunning window displays.

Asylum was asked to create two animated animals to celebrate the Christmas shopping season. The first was a nodding Afghan hound, listening to music on a pair of headphones. The second was a life size dancing polar bear, gyrating its hips and waving it’s arms.

All the mechanical rigs were designed digitally and simulated to make sure that they worked, before any metal was physically cut. In conjunction, the head and hands were sculpted on the computer and then CNC’d out of a light weight material. This was then artworked, flocked and hair punched in order to blend the solid parts with the softer mid body sections.
