McQueen Vanitas Skull

Asylum fabricated the magnificent skull collage, featured in ‘McQueen’, a documentary about the celebrated fashion designer.

After receiving the digital composition of flowers, birds and moths, we worked out the practicality of construction and designed the means of support via a branch-like framework.

We then deconstructed the sculpture into pieces and fabricated them using our in-house 3d printing facilities. Each section was carefully finished and primed, before being gold-leafed by hand and finally assembled on the framework.

On set, fresh flowers were used to dress the model.
