BBC Desperate Romantics

A live action, real time effects shoot.

After plates of the paintings were shot, the canvasses were removed and mortar pots were fitted to the frames. The colours and configurations of each painting were matched approximately with bags of powder paint that contained a pyrotechnic charge, upto 20 charges per pot used and detonated real time to interact with the actors.

Extra close ups were shot, reproducing sections of the painting on glass, detonated and blown out with air canons.
