‘The Calcified’ are a series of photos of dead creatures that photographer, Nick Brandt, found on the shoreline of a lake in Tanzania. The extremely high soda content of the lake preserves them in this calcified form.
The creatures were taken exactly as found on the shoreline and an Asylum technician was employed to assist Nick in preserving and rigging the dead animals. They were then placed in living positions, bringing them back to life for the camera. To view more of Nick’s work please click here.
