Unlike the other projects we have work on for Burnham Niker, this Hiscox stills campaign involved a mix of engineering and puppet making.
The grabber was drawn digitally and passed through a simulator to make sure there were no collisions in the closing mechanism. The parts were all then machined in aluminium, polished and assembled with a pull cable for closing the pincers.
The puppet was created by Lee Sutton, our in-house soft fabrications supervisor. She committed her designs on paper for the client to sign-off before fabricating a mock-up ascertain the pattern required for specific shapes. An aluminium armature was sewn into the toy so as to be able to pose it in-front of the camera.
