We fabricated 4 spherical drones with internal flashing lights and spinning propellers as part of the Pepsi’s “what if” campaign. It was shot at Wireless festival in London and gives a staged demonstration of the blimps in action.
The drones were puppeteered on the end of large giant poles. They were connected together by a motorised rod which allowed the model to rotate on it’s central axis. This was controlled by a second puppeteer.
Our electronics department then had to create a custom DMX control system for the high powered LED’s that was rugged enough to withstand rapid movements and the weather. They ran off a mobile battery unit that was stationed by the pole’s pivot point.
