Asylum produced a travelling UK city map for the flying carpet sequence in M&S’s Christmas advert.
The land scape was divided into organic shapes that were attached to a bespoke slat conveyor belt. The camera could then remain stationary above the surface and the landscape would reveal itself from the horizon, mimicking forward movement.
Famous landmarks were digitally modelled in a geometric style and 3d printed. A variety of generic blocks were then cut from Foamex to populate in-between them, to represent homes and office blocks. LED lighting was wired to finish off the ambiance.
