Bob the Builder Live

Asylum worked closely with the original animators to create large scale versions of the TV characters from Bob The Builder.

The vehicles were constructed on steel chassis with fibreglass or aluminium honeycomb composite, they had a battery powered drive system and all the other moves were operated with hydraulics. The drivers of the trucks were hidden from the audience while dizzy the cement mixer was operated by radio control.

We also made all the costumes for the other characters and designed a system to operate the mouth movements by broadcasting each characters audio track to a receiver inside the head. Bird, Squawk, and Pilchard the cat were animatronic and also operated by radio control.
